Lionsgate's Motion Poster for 'Dredd' Teasing a Comic-Con Screening

Everyone is getting ready for next weeks Comic-Con panels and looks like Lionsgate is going to get your attention with this poster.

I recently had a conversation with Director Sage Hall about Motion Graphic Posters.

A few years ago they released one for Terminator Salvation and A Haunting in Connecticut but I don't think they were a hit.

Technology being what it is now, I'm positive we will be seeing many more of these in the future.  Since Magazines and News Papers will be a thing of the past in 5-10 years. Digital Advertising will have to step up and be more creative and entertaining.

Take a look at the new DREDD 3D motion graphics poster art.

Dredd 3D opens in theaters on September 21.  Check out JudgementIsComing.com where you can register and learn more about the screening at Comic-Con.

Jamie Lee Curtis to appear at HorrorHound Convention in November!

The rumors are true.

Jamie Lee Curtis has agreed to attend her first-ever horror convention. ...

And it will also be her last!

Jamie Lee Curtis has signed on as the guest of honor at this November's HorrorHound Weekend event. The event will take place over the weekend of November 16-18th, 2012 at the Indianapolis Marriott East, 7202 East 21st Street, Indianapolis, Indiana 46219.

Jamie Lee Curtis will be appearing at the event on both Saturday (November 17th) and Sunday (November 18th) for autograph sessions, photo-ops and an on-stage Q/A panel which is sure to be epic. This is a landmark opportunity for fans, as Jamie has never attended an event like this, nor provided horror fans with the opportunity to have their memorabilia signed in such a capacity. And it's all for charity, via the Starlight Children's Foundation. ALL monies earned from Jamie's autograph sessions, photo-ops and stage event will go directly to the Starlight Children's Foundation. In fact, part of the proceeds from HorrorHound Weekend's ticket sales will also be donated to this amazing charity as we will also be taking donations at the event for anyone wishing to help this cause further. More details about the charity and other ways you can help will be listed on this event's Web site when it is launched next month.

In conjunction with Jamie Lee Curtis' jump into the world of horror conventions, Jamie wanted to make sure that it was expressed that this will be a one time only appearance. Once this event is over, Jamie Lee Curtis will be retiring from the horror convention scene making this appearance all the more important for all those fans who have been patiently waiting for this moment and opportunity to meet one of the most iconic actors in horror history. This is IT!

Jamie Lee Curtis, daughter of actors Janet Leigh (Psycho) and Tony Curtis, began her horror career in one of the most important genre films ever produced: John Carpenter's Halloween (1978)! As central character, Laurie Strode, she helped create the modern day scream queen. This was firmly established thanks to her follow-up roles in The Fog, Prom Night, Terror Train and Road Games. In 1981 she returned to the role of Laurie Strode in Halloween II. Soon after, Jamie started appearing in more high-end projects and comedies including such classics as Trading Places, A Fish Called Wanda, Blue Steel, My Girl and Forever Young. In 1994 Jamie Lee Curtis co-starred in James Cameron's True Lies. Soon after Jamie returned to the Halloween franchise with H20, released in 1998 (and again, appearing in 2002's Halloween: Resurrection). More noteworthy film releases followed, including Virus, Freaky Friday, Christmas with the Kranks and Drowning Mona. More recently, Jamie has played a recurring character on the hit TV series NCIS.

This November HorrorHound Weekend event will include a packed vendor room and will boast a number of additional celebrity guests to be announced. Halloween and Jamie Lee Curtis fans alike will want to assure they mark this date on their calendars!!! Please note that autograph tickets for Jamie Lee Curtis will be sold on horrorhoundweekend.com in advance of the event. This decision has been made to assure that people traveling for this appearance will know prior to booking their travel that they in fact are going to meet this screen legend. Ticket information will be available next month.

HorrorHound's annual November event is usually held in Cincinnati, Ohio, however, due to the popularity of this event, we decided to move our event to our more-established (and larger) hotel in Indianapolis. HorrorHound Weekend will return to Cincinnati on its new date: March 22-24th, 2013 at the Sharonville Convention Center in Cincinnati, Ohio.

We urge people to learn more about the Starlight Children's Foundation by visiting http://www.starlight.org.

More details about HorrorHound Weekend can be found on-line at www.horrorhoundweekend.com. A full guest list and Web site for this November event will be on-line shortly.

'Machete' Producer Reveals Why Rick Perry Owes $2 Million!

This is absolutely worth reading for any filmmakers out there!

In his own words, Rick Schwartz recalls how the Texas governor went back on his word.

I am certainly not an expert on politics, and I'm learning the relative merits of our presidential candidates along with the rest of the nation. Forget about Texas Gov. Rick Perry's stances on taxes, immigration, abortion or health care. Set aside his decidedly odd debating technique, his immovable hair or whether he actually can win his party's nomination. There's one thing I simply can't ignore: Rick Perry owes me $2 million bucks.

It all started when we decided to make a movie together.

Perry attended the press conference for the state's newly revamped Texas Moving Image Incentive Program, announced at the very studio where we were to shoot our movie, Machete, with our director, Robert Rodriguez. For every dollar the cast and crew spent during our time in Austin — on personnel, hotels, transportation, restaurants — we would get back about 20 cents.

We meticulously followed the required process. The film commission read and approved the script, letting us know we had qualified for the rebate. Our film's accountants submitted the scrupulously tracked receipts of expenditures — a substantial amount of money that we had brought to Texas. The movie was released all over the world and performed well. Everyone was happy.

Three months after the movie came out, we received a letter from the film commission: We're keeping your money. They felt the film "portrayed Texans in a negative fashion." This heretofore unmentioned clause was a legal loophole for them not to pay us — something about protecting the gentle folks of Texas from slander. They could have called it what it is: good, old-fashioned censorship.

Sure, Machete is about a guy who runs around killing bad guys with, um, a machete. At one point, he rips a villain's small intestine out of his stomach and uses it to rappel out of a hospital window. It's not exactly a documentary on the issues affecting our nation's borders. But Gov. Perry deemed it damaging enough to his state's citizens that he withheld our money. It would be like Gov. Andrew Cuomo denying us a New York tax credit on Black Swan because he was concerned that all New Yorkers would be perceived as paranoid, bisexual ballerinas.

My investors and I lost millions of dollars. But the people who will lose most are the citizens of Texas. The state has incredibly competent crews, amazing resources and a very eclectic topography. Despite all that, nobody in their right mind is going to risk millions of dollars shooting in a state where the government can decide ex post facto not to honor its financial commitment based on arbitrary criteria. As of 2010, 42 states had some type of tax-incentive program. The competition is fierce for the entertainment industry's dollars.

By keeping our Machete money, Gov. Perry saved Texas a quick $2 million, but he cost the state much more. Before the new incentive program was enacted, there were about 50 film and television projects shot in Texas, spending a total of $155 million. In the past two years, those numbers have ballooned to nearly 250 productions resulting in 27,057 jobs and close to $250 million spent.

That's all about to fold like a bad hand of Texas Hold'em.

Rick Schwartz is an independent film producer whose credits include The Aviator and Malena. He keeps hoping Alec Baldwin will run for president.

Elizabeth Taylor: James Dean was Molested

Taylor & Dean on the set of GIANT (1956)

Elizabeth Taylor worked with James Dean on the film Giant in 1956.

They became friends and apparently Taylor knew a lot about Dean but didn't want it released until her passing.

Taylor says:
"I loved Jimmy. I'm going to tell you something, but it's off the record until I die. OK? When Jimmy was 11 and his mother passed away, he began to be molested by his minister. I think that haunted him the rest of his life. In fact, I know it did. We talked about it a lot. During Giant we'd stay up nights and talk and talk, and that was one of the things he confessed to me."

-from TheDailyBeast.com

Interesting information.  I wonder what else might leak from the past interviews of Ms. Taylor now that she has been laid to rest?

Warner Bros 'Likes' Facebook Rentals

read the whole article via the Wall Street Journal:

Warner Bros. Entertainment is now renting films via Facebook.  You can buy Facebook credits and then watch a film.  Right now, the only film is The Dark Knight, which is now 3 years old.  Not sure why they chose to use this film as the jump off but there it is.  You go to the Dark Knight Facebook page, like it & then rent it.  Simple enough.

It is a totally new avenue for Facebook at this time.  They've never done anything like this before.  But Time Warner is looking to compete with Netflix and they think that this might be the way.  We shall see.

Personally I have no desire to download a film I've seen for $3 and watch it on my Facebook page.  But maybe there is a market for this, then again, when you can look below and see that you can own the film for $6, maybe not.

Sony Lunches Online Casting Website

You're a fan of huge Hollywood films put out by Sony and you want to be in one?  Well looks like Sony is giving you the opportunity.  They've created their own online casting website for their films.

Face of the Fan is the way Sony is going to be casting many of their upcoming films.  They've started out with a big one, the next film in the "Underworld" series.   The first casting is for a  female 18 or older to play a Teenager.

"The Face of the Fan program enables us to source people from all over the country to find unknown talent and give them a shot at something they may not have otherwise been able to do," said Screen Gems president Clint Culpepper in a written statement.

I don't know if they are struggling to get the numbers they believe films need or if they are trying to give struggling actors a chance, either way, it's interesting for a studio to do this.  I just feel horrible for the poor intern that's going to get stuck sifting through the castings coming in for these films.

I'm sure Sony will be more successful at this then many of the past companies who have tried this.   But as far as I know, there has not been a studio who has tried to cast this way.

Have you heard of anything like this before?  Let me know?

MGM Declairs Chapter 11

via TheMovieBlog.com:

Looks as though Metro Goldwyn Mayer was forced to file Chapter 11 this past week.  The studio was forced by a private investor and now, looks like the entire library of films will be up for auction.  There are some great titles on the MGM label.  It will be interesting to see what the other studios try and buy up when the bidding starts.

Gordon-Levitt & Johansson might be in Zombie Love?

We're all looking for a good zombie love story, aren't we?

Looks like Diablo Cody ("Juno", "Jennifer's Body") will be producing the book to screen adaptation of S.G. Browne's novel 'Breathers: A Zombie's Lament' for Fox Searchlight.

Though the interesting news is that Joseph Gordon-Levitt ("500 Days of Summer) and Scarlett Johansson (Iron Man 2) are apparently "loosely" attached.

I'm intrigued.   These are two of my favorite actors working today and seeing them together in a zombie film could be freakin awesome.

Here is a Synopsis of the story:

"Andy Warner reanimates after the car accident that kills his wife, but is too mangled from his injuries to talk. He lives in his parents' wine cellar, occasionally attending a zombie support group and struggling to rejoin a society that offers the undead no rights, bans them from working and doesn't even punish those who destroy them. When Andy and his fellow zombies—notably Rita, a sexy suicide victim with a lipstick fetish, and Jerry, a Playboy-obsessed stoner—learn why they're so driven to consume human flesh, the repercussions are both tragic and hilarious. Browne neatly mixes humor and extreme violence with a surprisingly tender love story, some witty social satire and an extremely strong narrative voice."

Back to the Future NIKE shoes possible in 2015!

MSNBC is reporting that the popular footwear company has filed a patent for a self-lacing shoe that resembles the sneakers from BACK TO THE FUTURE II that practically everyone and their mothers wanted.

According to the patent, “the automatic lacing system provides a set of straps that can be automatically opened and closed to switch between a loosened and tightened position of the upper. The article further includes an automatic ankle cinching system that is configured to automatically adjust an ankle portion of the upper."

This would be pretty awesome. Not gonna lie. I think I'd have to get a pair.

In honor of this awesomeness. I have to also share the Hewy Lewis Tune below. Enjoy!

Top Films of the Decade

I've compiled my own list of the films that I think broke ground during these last 10 years. They made me Think, Laugh, Cry and just stand up and Applaud for the work that was done.

I would love to know what films you think should have made the list or even if you agree with any of my choices.

Check out the list here: http://www.listal.com/list/top-films-decade-20002009

MGM headed for sale

It's sad to see a giant fall but this is probably not the last time we'll see this.

Looks like MGM is another of the giants to find out that the world of Entertainment has changed & they were too far behind to keep up. They've changed hands a few times over the years, didn't opt to keep their deal with Disney and what used to be the MGM studios in Orlando and now news trickles down that the studio will likely go up for auction in pieces in the next few weeks.

Apparently, in the current market place MGM is only worth 1.5 Billion. That's nuts when you consider the catalog of films it has behind it & the iconic image that the logo holds in the entertainment industry. But times are tough & if they are choosing to let it all go on the market, they will not get what they 'think' the studio is worth.

Here is the real problem, they have nothing New to offer the world now. This year MGM only released 1 film, a remake of FAME and it did not do well, big surprise. Plus their list of films for 2010 do not sound impressive either, "Hot Tub Time Machine", "the Zookeeper" and a Remake of "Red Dawn". God Bless them for trying but this is sad.

Hot Tub Time Machine? Are they kidding with that title? (shakes head)
