MACHETE Trailer! HELL YES!

They've made a film from a fake trailer that ran during the intermission of the Rodriguez/Tarantino epic "Grindhouse" double feature.

I've been looking forward to this for some time. I can not wait to see MACHETE on the big screen.

Danny Trejo, Jeff Fahey, Michelle Rodriguez, Lindsay Lohan, Steven Segal, Robert DeNiro, Cheech Marin and the list goes on & on!

Universal cans "Cartel"

Looks like no one can save "Cartel" from being shut down. Universal has canned the $42.5 million film before it soared over budget.

The studio felt it wasn't a strong enough script to continue to sink money into when they were sure there would be no significant profit from the film.

A remake of the 1993 Italian film La Scorta, (because we needed another remake) the film was set to star Josh Brolin. Though a talented actor, the studio wasn't sure that this film would net any profits as it's budget continued to climb. But no worries for Brolin as he has a "PAY-OR-PLAY" deal with the studio. This means he'll still net his 7 figure salary even though the film will not be made. How nice for him.

I'm going to say what most people in this industry won't say, Why the Fuck are studios plummeting their businesses into the ground with rehashed ideas and untalented writers?

If a company knows they don't like the script, then why begin pre-production? They waste the time of everyone involved in the project. Now all of those crew members are out of work because the project was weak to begin with, this is bad business.

Looks like the only one walking away safe is Josh Brolin. Good for him and his management team for covering their bases. They probably knew the project was doomed when Sean Penn walked away and figured this was a safety net.

I do not agree with actor salaries. Maybe, one day I'll eat those words if I ever bank 7 figures for a role, but let's be honest, does Josh Brolin deserve a 7 figure salary for not doing any work?

The money Universal sank into getting the film this far into pre-production and then pulling out could have easily made 20 indie films.

Maybe they'll be more cautious before they greenlight a project that doesn't have a strong foundation.

Fright Night Remake

There really are no original ideas left in Hollywood.

Looks like Dreamworks is set to cash in on the horror genre with a remake of the 1985 film "Fright Night". They have just signed on Anton Yelchin (Star Trek, Charlie Bartlett) to star.

I enjoy Yelchin. His role as Chekov in the new "Star Trek" was enjoyable and if you haven't seen "Charlie Bartlett", I suggest picking it up.

Craig Gillepie (Lars and the Real Girl) is set to direct the film that will be written by Marti Noxon (Buffy the Vampire Slayer).

Dreamworks is looking to make it commercial like they did with 2007's "Disturbia". Which means a PG-13 film.

The Toxic Avenger Remake Confirmed

Looks like it's happening kids.

If you're a fan of the cult classic released in 1984, then here is your nightmare come true. Troma president & creator of 'The Toxic Avenger', Lloyd Kaufman confirmed with Arrow in the Head.

I was painfully aware that Troma had relinquished the rights for their film "Mother's Day" to be remade by Darren Lynn Bousman (Saw II, Repo! A Genetic Opera). Though a remake of that film, as terrific as it was, does not bother me. But a watered down Toxic Avenger does.

According to Deadline, 'Toxie, as the mop-wielding character is affectionately called, is at the center of a remake deal for a film that will be produced by Akiva Goldsman, Richard Saperstein and Charlie Corwin. Corwin's Original Media, a partnership with Dutch reality TV giant Endemol, has financed the acquisition of rights. The group intends to turn Toxie into a green superhero for these environmentally conscious times.'

I'm all about saving the planet and giving kids a superhero that might make them more aware of what is happening in the world around them. Why Toxie? Why not make a "Captain Planet" film?

Turning a character that is synonyms with raunchy, uncouth, vial behavior into a family film is not right. Having Toxie be the face of Troma for so many years has gained him an Iconic Status in cinema and now he'll be less then iconic when Hollywood puts it's PG stamp on the story.

We all know Indie films are hurting. The internet is killing sales and Troma has been a pioneer in the business for over 30 years. I hope that the money end of things does not completely destroy the creative end of what Troma does.
