Universal's Halloween Horror Nights Brings "SILENT HILL" to Life

Just announced at San Diego Comic Con

The SILENT HILL franchise is coming to UNIVERSAL'S HALLOWEEN HORROR NIGHTS in OCTOBER!


This should be good.

Universal turning 100 yrs old!

Universal is turning 100 and on it's Centennial it has decided to release some films from over the years.

There are classic horror releases like "Dracula" and the "Creature from the Black Lagoon".  Then there are recent films like "8 Mile" and "American Pie".  Universal has a huge catalog and they intend to make you remember.

They have also started a Tumblr page which you can see images from throughout the 100 years of the working studio!

The studio is even planning to release "JAWS" in mid-August, with a variety of events planned at the films location Martha's Vineyard.

Universal Monsters get the Blu-Ray treatment in October

Frankenstein, The Bride of Frankenstein, The Invisible Man, Dracula, The Wolf Man, Phantom of the Opera, The Mummy and The Creature From The Black Lagoon are finally all together on Blu-ray. Universal will be releasing a massively awesome set called “Universal Classic Monsters: The Essential Collection” on October 5th, and there are a ridiculous amount of extra features in addition to the horror flicks.

Production photos, behind-the-scenes stuff, trailers, tributes to Jack Pierce and Lon Chaney, Jr.

The movies have been together on DVD before with a decent collection of features, but this Blu-ray collection seems absolutely stunning. A big upgrade for true classics. Plus, there are books involved! Everyone loves reading. The big question is…at a pre-sale price of $112, is this a necessary upgrade or a dreamy luxury?

Universal releases images at Comic-Con of SNOW WHITE and THE HUNTSMAN

Universal released the first images from Snow White and the Huntsman at San Diego Comic-Con.
It's another dark take on Snow White.  If you don't remember, in 1997 there was Snow White: A Tale of Terror with Sigourney Weaver.  It didn't do well, though it was pretty damn dark.  

 Regardless, Universal wants to get interest in their new take on the story before rival Relativity releases their currently Untitled Snow White adaptation. (if you'd like to see Lily Collins in Relativity's Snow White "look" click the link.)
 Relativity does have a good cast as well, but...I'm more interested in seeing a sword wheeling Snow White over another Bitch in a Ball Gown.

It's that time again kids.  Time to pee your pants as you wander around Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios!   

Remeber that movie? "Death Becomes Her"

I've decided to start a new post regarding films you might have forgotten.

My first selection is the Robert Zemeckis film "Death Becomes Her". In 1992 this film hit the summer box office and I remember running to see it. Yeah, I was a weird kid.

Starring Meryl Streep, Bruce Willis & Goldie Hawn, the film takes you on a journey as these women discover a way to stop the aging process. But with such a gift comes a certain amount of responsibility.

 It also stars the amazing Isabella Rossellini as a temptress of fate.

Universal cans "Cartel"

Looks like no one can save "Cartel" from being shut down. Universal has canned the $42.5 million film before it soared over budget.

The studio felt it wasn't a strong enough script to continue to sink money into when they were sure there would be no significant profit from the film.

A remake of the 1993 Italian film La Scorta, (because we needed another remake) the film was set to star Josh Brolin. Though a talented actor, the studio wasn't sure that this film would net any profits as it's budget continued to climb. But no worries for Brolin as he has a "PAY-OR-PLAY" deal with the studio. This means he'll still net his 7 figure salary even though the film will not be made. How nice for him.

I'm going to say what most people in this industry won't say, Why the Fuck are studios plummeting their businesses into the ground with rehashed ideas and untalented writers?

If a company knows they don't like the script, then why begin pre-production? They waste the time of everyone involved in the project. Now all of those crew members are out of work because the project was weak to begin with, this is bad business.

Looks like the only one walking away safe is Josh Brolin. Good for him and his management team for covering their bases. They probably knew the project was doomed when Sean Penn walked away and figured this was a safety net.

I do not agree with actor salaries. Maybe, one day I'll eat those words if I ever bank 7 figures for a role, but let's be honest, does Josh Brolin deserve a 7 figure salary for not doing any work?

The money Universal sank into getting the film this far into pre-production and then pulling out could have easily made 20 indie films.

Maybe they'll be more cautious before they greenlight a project that doesn't have a strong foundation.
