JAWS Returns to Theaters This Thursday!

Cinemark Holdings revealed that the Steven Spielberg iconic blockbuster, Jaws, will kick off their “Fall Classics Series” in over 150 Cinemark theatres across the country

This digitally restored version of the classic film will be scheduled to play on Thursday, August 23rd, at two separate show times, 2pm and 7pm.

As part of Universal Pictures’ ongoing 100th Anniversary celebration, Jaws was one of 13 classic Universal films to be digitally remastered and fully restored from 35mm original film elements. Over the course of several months, skilled technicians worked with Steven Spielberg to meticulously balance color, remove dirt and scratches, and repair any damage to the film elements shot by shot and frame by frame.

JAWS is one of the most influential pictures in Hollywood history and changed the landscape of how movies are released,” states James Meredith, VP of Marketing & Communications for Cinemark. “With this incredible restoration, fans now have the opportunity to see one of Hollywood’s legendary films in crystal clear digital projection and incredible surround sound. Some of our locations will be featuring these titles on our Cinemark XD Extreme Digital Cinema screen!”

Cinemark takes pride in creating the best entertainment experience in the industry. In order to make movie-going as easy and enjoyable as possible, Cinemark focuses on offering more choices to their customers. For example, “Print at Home” ticketing, available at www.cinemark.com, makes it easy for patrons to purchase tickets in advance from the comfort of their home or office. Fiona Shaw - a true actor preps for the National Theatre

I absolutely love watching actors prepare.

Fiona Shaw is currently bewitching audiences as Marnie on HBO's True Blood,
but in 2009 she was starring in Berholt Brecht's 'Mother Courage and her Children', directed by Deborah Warner on the Olivier Stage.

This is a rare glimpse behind the scenes as she prepares for the nights performance.

NSFW Sony's Girl with the Dragon Tattoo Poster

A fellow actor friend of mine of Facebook just posted the new one sheet for Sony's upcoming "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo". This is not typical of the MPAA to allow such an image. A female nipple? Actress Rooney Mara's nipple to be exact.  That seems highly odd.

But then I came across the more suitable chain theatre poster, which is still a little bit on the risky side for Sony or the MPAA & I must say I'm impressed. Could American audiences be ready for minor female nudity on theatrical posters?

Probably not, I'm sure in the images that will be sent out to AMC, REGAL, CARMIKE, ect. will most likely feature a different image or they'll photoshop a bra on her. Lord knows there isn't a mother in the heartland that could handle taking their kids to see "Cars 2", look up from their tub of over priced, over buttered popcorn and see their children staring at a pierced female breast.

The Collective, Bloody-Disgusting and AMC Theatres Join Forces

Horror website Bloody-Disgusting.com**, the AMC theatre chain and The Collective are teaming up.  They will be finding and distributing independent horror films.

**Bloody-Disgusting.com was the first major website to get behind our short film "Candy." and release the original concept trailer at the same time we screened it at Creations Weekend of Horrors in Los Angeles last year.  They have been a huge supporter of Inide Horror & I'm pleased to see this joint venture happening.

Los Angeles-
The Collective, a full-service entertainment management and content company, along with AMC Theatres (AMC), a leading theatrical and exhibition company, and popular horror website BloodyDisgusting.com, announce today a film distribution partnership dedicated to acquiring and marketing the best horror and thriller titles from the festival and international markets.

The Collective has acquired the rights to several films out of horror- and genre-heavy festivals such as the Toronto International Film Festival, the Berlin International Film Festival, Slamdance, Sitges Film Festival and Fantastic Fest, and plans on releasing the films across multiple platforms.

AMC will show a new title in the series each month, at least twice a week, across 32 key markets, including a special Friday midnight show, beginning in May. After their theatrical exhibition at AMC, films from the series will be available to fans of the genre in DVD, Video on Demand (VOD), online and television. Released though The Collective's home-video partnership with Vivendi Universal, DVDs for titles in the Bloody Disgusting series will feature unrated content, bonus features and special packaging for each title.

The AMC showings will introduce audiences to top horror and thriller films they would not otherwise see, as well as feature short films, contests and premiere content from the genre's heavy hitters, offering a new platform for how films can be experienced.

"There's a huge market for niche horror films - both independent and foreign - that isn't being met in the current environment," said Gary Binkow, a partner at the Collective. "We're extremely excited to be working with AMC, a company that is forward-thinking in their approach to distribution and community outreach, and willing to work with us to bring the fans into theatres to experience quality horror films in high definition video and audio. Together, we will build up a series around what those fans really want. And it only makes sense to have the trusted tastemakers of the genre from the world's number one entertainment source for horror, Bloody Disgusting, pick the titles that they think deserve to be seen by a wider audience."

"In many of AMC's major-market theatres, horror films are very popular, but we have lacked a steady supply of quality titles," said Nikkole Denson-Randolph, vice president of alternative and specialty content at AMC. "We are pleased to offer our guests this innovative film series, one that will entice them to return month after month for programming selected especially for them."

"We see a lot of horror films that never make it to the consumer here in the States," said Brad Miska, Bloody Disgusting co-head. "We hope to change that by releasing only films we personally love and think the horror community will embrace. Horror movies are a social experience. The success of Bloody Disgusting and other horror communities proves that concept. Bloody Disgusting represents a society of hardcore fans and we plan to activate them through these screenings, bringing the conversation off of the blogs and into the theater itself, while creating a unique experience for each filmgoer that motivates them to come back every month for the experience itself, not just the films."

The first films to be released under this venture are:

COLD FISH - From Sion Sono, the director of LOVE EXPOSURE and SUICIDE CLUB and based on a true story, it came as no surprise that Sono's brutal serial killer film COLD FISH received international acclaim on the festival circuit, playing Toronto, Venice, Pusan, Fantastic Fest, and others. When Shamoto's teenage daughter was caught stealing, a generous middle-aged man helps to resolve the situation. The man and his wife offer to have Shamoto's daughter work at their fish store. Shamoto soon discovers the horrific truth of the seemingly perfect couple...who force him to get his hands dirty in their brutal business. Inspired by a true events, COLD FISH is a bloodcurdling suspense drama that unveils the underlying insanity of an ordinary man.

RAMMBOCK - Produced by Melanie Berke and Sigrid Hoerner, written by Benjamin Hessler and directed by Marvin Kren, the Fantastic Fest favorite marks the first German foray into the zombie genre. Kren's short but action packed feature follows a group of strangers attempting to fight off a horde of infected zombies in a Berlin apartment complex.

YELLOWBRICKROAD - Produced by Eric Hungerford and directed and written by Andy Mitton and Jesse Holland and starring Cassidy Freeman (SMALLVILLE), Anessa Ramsey (THE SIGNAL), and Lee Wilkof (BEFORE THE DEVIL KNOWS YOU'RE DEAD) In the Fall of 1940, the entire population of Friar, NH abandoned their homes and walked up an ancient trail, never to be seen alive again. Their fates have remained a mystery for over 70 years, until a team of researchers discover the trailhead and attempt to track the path the doomed citizens of Friar took.

BURLESQUE review

It takes a legend to make a star.  The Burlesque tagline on the poster tells you what the film wants to be, though I think the tagline is more an obvious play on who the two of these women are at this point in their life.

The Good:
Cher is great in this role.  She owns the role of Tess, a struggling and aging club owner who possibly never got her 'shot' at fame but has managed to create an amazing place for people to develop their talents and perform!

Christina Aguilera does a great job in the role of the overwhelmed and wide eyed would be star.  She's surprisingly great with her first real acting role since "The Micky Mouse Club".  Most of the time she just appears on tv as herself.

The Music is pretty terrific.  Though mostly new music, there are a few standards in there that are great to hear.  Cher has a terrific solo tune called "Last of Me".  It's really a throwback to Cher of the 80's.  It's a strong ballad and it really is intense.

Aguilera has many songs, of course, no one can deny her talent.  Her vocals are amazing.  Loved the pop songs with the dance numbers.  Very must a music video feel but still captured the intensity in a live performance.

Stanley Tucci, Kristin Bell, Cam Gigandet and Julianne Hough are all good in their roles.
Great Cameo's from James Brolin, Dianna Agron (TV's GLEE) and Alan Cumming.

The Bad:
The plot.  It's been done, time and time again.  Small town girl seeks big city dreams, doesn't get what she wants at first and then ends up the star.  Kind of lame but you can look past it because you're blinded by the glitz and glamor of the performances.

I honestly can't stress the storyline enough.  I know this film was a reason to have a few terrific people get together to do a musical, but I wish they would have just made an attempt to do some original things in the film with the story.

The minute the would be boyfriend (Cam Gigandet) tells Ali (Aguilera) that he isn't gay but he's engaged, you know exactly where this story is going.  Then she leaves his apt. in a hell of a rain storm, in LA, come on now, it barely rains in LA.  Then he picks her up from the sidewalk and carries her back to his apartment, tells her to stay for a while and they become roommates and eventually a couple with a bit of trouble.  Predictable.

That's truly the issues with the film, the predictability of the entire film.  Though that's not going to be a surprise or deter any of the people seeing this film.  It's really for the fans.

Overall.  If you're a Cher or Christina Aguilera fan, you will love this film.  If you enjoy Musicals, you'll enjoy this film.
This is not a think piece, it's just a fun night at the theatre.  Enjoy it.  They don't come around all that often.

Fringe Theatre in Sarasota Florida

For the last few weeks I have been rehearsing for 2 back to back shows written by Jenny Beres. We are performing in a furniture store called Home Resource and though that might seem a bit odd, I want you to take yourself outside our normal way of going to the theatre for a moment & experience a theatrical performance right in front of you.

No boundaries with these shows. You the audience are left to the possibility of one of the actors walking right into you as they leave a scene or yelling directly towards you as you sip your wine. It's an interesting and great way to experience a play.

Our director, Louise Stinespring called the shows "Light pieces with a lot of hostility" and I couldn't have explained the two plays better.

If you are in the Sarasota, Florida area, I ask you to pull yourself away from your TV and away from reality for one night and join us as we brake down traditional theatrical walls and present to you "A Taste of Jenny Beres".

Two Plays in One Night for only 12 bucks.

Check out the Home Resource website for ticket purchase information.
