Review: The Good Sisters

Hold onto your candles and your belladonna plants kids!

The Good Sisters will take you on a journey of mystery and discovery. Follow these two, not so average sisters, as they try and figure out why they feel as though they are being watched.

Is it just complete paranoia? Could it be the creepy downstairs neighbor who just moved in? Is it the odd, over talkative woman and her dick of a husband? What about the 'roommates' next door? Who is making these sisters question every move they make?

I thoroughly enjoyed the plot that writer/director Jimmyo Burril laid out in this film. It kept me interested and I never once thought I knew the ending. The setting of the film grabs you as well. Rather then have the sisters live in a stereotypical 'creepy' house, they actually reside inside an apartment home. Which, many people from the North East will recognize. Those types of apartment buildings, which are very large converted homes, are not seen much outside that area and therefore I found it a terrific backdrop for the story.

Debbie Rochon (Colour from the Dark) and April Monique Burril (Chainsaw Sally) make a terrific team in the film. Rochon's calm and class gives her character "Breanne" a much needed air of Maturity. While Burril's character "Kindra" is able to retain a more vulnerable, "new witch" feel. It's a great combination to watch.

I also found the dream sequences and spell casting sequences visually exciting. I looked forward to hearing Rochon & Burril chanting because I knew it wouldn't be long for another enticing visual trip.

Don't worry for your blood fans out there. You'll definitely get your fill. You have to love a good seance that requires a sacrifice.

If you're a lover of any type of witch story, I strongly suggest picking up a copy of The Good Sisters.

Movie Title it's how you win awards

I do believe it is quite Obvious to the movie going public, what makes an academy award winning film. But honesty, Brutal Honesty, can open your eyes sometimes.

This is worth watching.

Bleed for a Cause

This past Sunday I had the pleasure of taking part in a charity event in Burbank run by the wonderful Tara Cardinal & Devanny Pinn (pictured left). Both Indie Scream Queens and both driven to make a difference.

The event was to benefit Haiti and was a Blood, clothing and money donation. I placed my arm on the chair, gave some blood & time to help. Though we are all aware that not only is Haiti in trouble but now Chile is as well.

What I was told by Ms. Cardinal was the donation center will disperse the blood where they feel it needs to go. So if that's Haiti or Chile we still made a great impact and helped a devastated area.

The turn out was so large that many people that showed up later in the day were turned away. But they have promised to hold another "Bleed for a Cause" event in the coming months.

You'll want to be there. Not only are both Tara & Devanny wonderful women doing a wonderful thing, but all the men & woman who turned out to represent the Horror Genre were all happy to be there. It was such a pleasure talking with HarryManfredini, James Gunn, John Kassir, Elissa Dowling, Megan Frances & Bianca Barnett among others.

An Apple a Day...

I want Candy.

Here I go, into uncharted waters. I've helped start projects before but never my own.

As a creative person, I am constantly putting so many things together and putting so much energy into projects but I never know which ones will work out or which ones will just cost me money I don't have to spend.

Candy came to mind in October of 2009 while I was in Los Angeles. The idea was only going to take a day or two and I just wanted to create something.

I was inspired by Linda Lawson, who explained to me her dislike for horror films and how she had never watched one. When I said "But you're an actress. How could you not want to dress up like a witch or a demon on Halloween?" She simply said "I don't like the scariness of the holiday and I don't enjoy horror films because the represent only the scary." or something to that effect.

Regardless, I then became interested in doing a short film that Linda could watch or that she could act in. Not a Gore film, not a Completely normal Horror film by any means. Something Different.

I leave it at that.

You can judge for yourself after it comes out. You may like that I've stepped away from conventional ideas to bring a twist on something we all may be familiar with or maybe you'll hate it. To each his/her own.

I'm looking to this short as a way to bring to life a new character and a new way to look at the genre of Horror. With my talented & wonderful friend Sage Hall starring in the film, her production company StarFruit Productions, taking the reins & Wheat shooting it, we have a mixture that is sure to bring about a great product. I am confident in this.

Pre-Production has now begun and hopefully you will come along for the Sweetest Ride in Horror.
